LADY LUNA

It is Day 3 of Kat McNally’s Reverb.  The prompt:  Lady Luna.
When was the last time you stopped to look up at the moon?

What did she have to say to you?

Living in the city, I seldom stop to look up at the moon.  My mind is so preoccupied with thoughts coming at me in continuous live-stream.  It is as if there is no sky and I’ve forgotten how to look up.  There is no need.  There’s street lights.  Why would I look up? Talk about being unconscious!

blood moonHowever, because of social media, I was alerted to the full blood moon in September and witnessed it in all its glory.  She did not really speak to me that night.  I was too busy trying to capture the image on camera.  Too busy trying not to miss the event.  I lost the magic of the moon that night.

IMG_3014I do remember another night of waiting for the moon in August at the lake.  We were sitting around the campfire with neighbours.  The air was cool.  The night dark.  I wrapped the blanket around me and looked up into the sky.  Oh, how vast and deep it was!  The stars twinkled and winked.  The moon had not yet appeared.  But I felt the Universe wrap its arms around me.  They were so warm and comforting.  The fire crackled and flickered. There was no need for human speech.  We all understood one another.  We were with each another.

It got late and we could not wait for the moon.  We walked home as it was not far.  Our neighbours lit our path with headlights from their vehicle.  It was as if we were guided by moonbeams.  Thank you Lady Luna.  Till next time.

IN DARKNESS

#AugustMoon Day 1 prompt

It is true we all begin our journey in the darkness, in the womb of our mothers.  We leave its safety and burst forth into the light and the world with a grand wailing.  I am feeling it is how we enter each new venture. It is with trepidation and delight – like a child screaming going down a water slide. Oh the fear and exhilaration! Let me not lose either.

I feel the safety wrapped in the arms of darkness, feeling the closeness of my neighbours’ prescence around the campfire. The stars come one by one.  The flames crackle and leap.  The wine is poured.  The conversations begin.  Slowly the barriers recede. We recognize each other.  I look up into the night sky.  It is alive with stars winking and twinkling down upon us.

TIME IN THE DESERT

IMG_6101

Time in the desert moves slowly but surely.  Silence is all around me.  I can hear the echo of my heartbeat.  Peace is all around me.  I gaze down at my own private Grand Canyon.  How lucky am I in this place at this time.

The sun warms my face in the daytime.  It lights up the world and I can see for miles around.  At night, the moon is bright overhead.  The stars twinkle merrily in the velvety dark.  I can see the belt of the Orion.  How expansive and rich is the universe!

I inhale and exhale.  I am grateful in the desert.

IF ONLY YOU WERE HERE

IMG_5536

If only you were here, we could do so many things….hold hands, touch each other’s faces and talk of tomorrow.  We could laugh in the sunshine and splash in the rain.  We could sing Bird on a Wire and Hallelujah along with Leonard Cohen.  We could almost fly to the moon and back and swing from the stars.  We could almost have fun.

You are here.  And we can learn to do all those things.  We have to open our hearts and our minds to embrace all possibilities.  We can fly to the moon and dance among the stars.  HALLELUJAH!
