A very grey and smoky morning. It is dark in the house. It is a day of multiple cups of tea/coffee. I am not fighting it. I am taking care not to fall into despair though it does look like we’re on the edge of destruction. I am comforting myself that we are doing the best we can to lighten the burden on our planet. We have installed solar panels first on the house and then on the garage. We have many catchments for rainwater harvesting. We do not use chemicals in our food growing endeavours or in maintaining our yard.
Rather than sitting frozen with all my worries and fears, I decided to tackle living as best as I can. I changed out of my pjs, sat here, tapped out a few words for the Ultimate Blog Challenge. Then I decided I should do a couple of necessary things like booking for my physical and paying my auto insurance. The doctor’s appointment made online caused no problems. Just waiting for confirmation. The auto insurance was stressful. Nowadays getting to talk to a real person on the phone is like trying to break into Fort Knox. I leave a voice message. I get a call back. Then I had to leave another voice message for another person.
All that didn’t do any wonders for my unsteady nerves. It’s taken care of and now I can let it go. I did a few things like doing a load of laundry and dishes while waiting for return phone calls. It’s best to put that energy into something useful instead of stewing in frustration. I might take a tylenol for my headache or I got chocolate cake which might work better.
I love that you catch your twin for repurposing!!

rain not twinβ¦. Oh boy!
I vote for the Chocolate Cake because I hate waiting for people to call me back. But those things are done and now you should do something fun that makes you happy.
Lily, I was wondering how much smoke you were getting from the Canadian fires. In Oriental medicine, smoke will make you sad/depressed and maybe give you a headache. Sometimes I have a headache that wants chocolate cake! So I vote you give in. Take Tylenol plus eat the cake. You only go around once. Btw I admire all the earth-friendly steps you are taking. I always enjoy hearing about your garden.
Thanks, Kebba. Been getting alot of smoke this summer.
I definitely vote for the chocolate cake to calm your nerves Lily! I know what how aggravating it is to try to talk to a human on the phone! Hope the rest of your day went well.
Like Kebba said, I vote for Tylenol *and* cake! π But I’m sorry you had a difficult day. Those worries can weigh on you, even when it’s just the waiting to finish a task like setting an appointment or paying a bill. When you are waiting, you might try fun things in addition to busy work. Like watching movies or reading a book? Hope it all gets resolved.
Lily, chocolate cake is definitely the answer! I am at awe about your sustainable way of living, you’re doing a great thing.
Question: Why does paying your auto insurance include phone calls and voice mails? Don’t they send you an invoice, and you pay it using e-banking? Pardon my Swiss ignorance π
Good questions, Tamara. My insurance carrier started to send invoice through email and it was late this year – on the date it was due. My agent saying there were changes, etc. etc. saying if I need help or a hard copy, to phone. Also I cannot use my credit card for online banking. I had paid online through my bank before but was unsure if I had to change my insurance account number, etc. I can also earn cash back on my credit card. They advise not to send credit card info through email. I think I will change my insurance carrier next year. Iβm not happy with this one any longer.
I love how vulnerable you are in your posts, showing up consistently, no matter how you are feeling. It’s real, authentic, and inspiring. I also vote for chocolate cake! π
Good for you for trying to reduce your carbon footprint. I would love to be able to put up solar panels. Something I want to look into.
Oh, and I’m another vote for the chocolate cake. Chocolate makes everything better.
